The liability trial lasted two and a half months, while the damages phase took an additional three months. After all that, the jury only needed 50 minutes to come to a verdict awarding Mr. Lin with $62,060,086.27, broken down like this:
- $60,086.27 for past medical expenses
- $42,000,000 for future pain and suffering
- $20,000,000 for past pain and suffering
At the time, this verdict was believed to be the largest personal injury verdict for a single plaintiff in the history of the Queens County Supreme Court.
