A 57-year old man was awarded compensation after being struck by a car while walking across a pedestrian crossing with inoperable traffic lights. The man sustained trauma to the back of his head which resulted in brain damage and acute mental status changes, fractured skull, brain hemorrhages and spinal damage, and required extensive medical treatment including rehabilitation and occupational therapy. The defendant driver was found to be negligent and was ordered to pay $990,000 in damages.
