A man who went into hospital to have a benign tumor removed from his nervous system was awarded $1.25 million in compensation after the hospital staff failed to adequately test and monitor him before and during surgery. The defendants improperly performed an incision and failed to correctly identify and protect nerves, tendons, ligaments, muscles and other structures in the area of the operative site, damaging a nerve in the process of the surgery. As a result, Plaintiff suffered a loss of motor and sensory function as well as weakness and numbness in his left arm and shoulder.
