$41 MILLION
A woman who was several months pregnant started experiencing severe stomach pains. After two visits to the hospital, she was incorrectly diagnosed. She died three weeks later while waiting for an ambulance to arrive because the Emergency Medical Services team refused to carry her down the stairs. Her husband and five children were awarded $41 million against New York City’s Health and Hospitals Corporation and Emergency Medical Services.
“The city conceded negligence in the case.”
