Firm Wins Verdict for Misdiagnosis of Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy
Jury Verdict: $41 Million
A woman's death was caused by the misdiagnosis of her ectopic pregnancy. Her husband and five children were awarded $41 million in damages after a five-hour deliberation by a Brooklyn jury. The plaintiff was aware she was several months pregnant when she started experiencing severe stomach pains, but after two visits to the hospital she was misdiagnosed with a urinary tract infection. She died three weeks later while waiting for an ambulance to arrive after an Emergency Medical Services team refused to carry her down the stairs and take her to hospital. The hospital responsible conceded negligence.
Firm Holds Hospital Responsible for Unnecessary Partial Hand Amputation
Jury Verdict: $40 Million
A woman who went into a hospital for lung surgery and ended up having her hand amputated was awarded $40 million in damages against the hospital responsible. She had had an operation on her lung to remove an abscess. In the recovery room, an intravenous tube feeding blood to a vein in her left hand dislodged and instead began pumping blood into her hand tissue, which became gangrenous. Her attorney also argued that the doctors had also provided the plaintiff with the wrong medication, which constricted her blood vessels and compounded the problem.

Firm Slams Hospital, Doctor for Surgical Malpractice
Jury Verdict: $5 Million
A woman who entered a medical center for leg surgery and left with severe injuries to her genital area, was awarded $5 million in compensation. She had sustained a fractured leg as a result of a motorcycle incident, and alleged that while in surgery a doctor had improperly positioned her and used excessive force on her leg, causing pain, swelling and even necrosis in her vaginal area. The Brooklyn jury apportioned 60% liability against the doctor and 40% against the medical center.
Firm Slams Doctors Responsible for Misdiagnosis of Breast Cancer
Settlement: $4 Million
A woman who died as a result of her doctor's failure to properly diagnose her aggressive breast cancer had $4 million worth of settlement monies awarded to her estate. The doctor responsible had twice diagnosed and removed benign tumors from his patient in the early 1990s. In 2001 the woman again visited the same doctor, who diagnosed a new breast lump as a benign tumor with "no sign of malignancy". Upon getting a second opinion over a year later after noticing that the lump had grown, she was informed that "the cancer had spread". The woman did not respond to treatment and died less than a year later.
Firm Wins Settlement for Failure to Diagnose Breast Cancer
Settlement: $3.1 Million
The doctors and medical facilities responsible for failing to diagnose a woman's malignant breast cancer, allowing it to spread throughout her body, were forced to pay more than $3 million in damages. The woman, who consulted her doctors after discovering a breast mass, was not given the adequate testing (such as mammogram, biopsy, CT scan, MRI etc), and as such failed to recognize the urgency of her condition. As a result, the woman's breast cancer spread, leading to severe pain and suffering, the need for chemotherapy and other treatment including a mastectomy and the removal of lymph nodes, depression and other health issues.
